as we know, present generation today include some generation X, a lot of generation Y and still incoming generation Z, which led us to some challenge that different than we know today, Schroer says each generation really differs from one another you see in generation X's early life this generation whose born between 1966-1976 really have low enthusiasm about their environment, mostly call skepticism, so in other word we can say this generation don't ask question a lot, at least not as many as generation Y
generation Y whose born between 1977-1994 had really intense interaction with media, with internet and all sort of stuff which make data travelling so much easier and faster, this generation can't be easily 'fooled' just because they have seen it all, so it makes them less brand royal, and thus make them really flexible about their way, we can say this generation will always develop as long as they feel they need to, meanwhile generation Z whose born between 1995-2012 we cannot conclude anything from this generation just because it's still growing rapidly but most people will agree this generation will interact with much more diversity between them thus make them really flexible and even more develop than generation Y, but whether it's going to be like that or something else we cannot tell yet.
so base on that we can conclude that mostly what consist in society right now was generation Y, which means this internet society will always be growing rapidly, ideologically and socially. meanwhile generation X still exist and become the guardian of value among society, because their nature which just don't care and just passing what have given to them by their elders, generation X still maintaining whats good in the past and apply them to today society, well in some case the failed because it's not relevant anymore (such as company culture;political campaign;marketing strategy;etc) but still there's some part where they still exist.
what i'm talking about is in military organization, not many military organization as i recognised but my own country, as we know how people get educated in military academy or such they begin with self control, discipline and ideological reason, and heres what interesting, in ideological reason about what they must do and what they not permitted to do is thought through doctrine which thought each day 24/7 which basically include command hierarchy,that include command,control and communication inside them we often hears "never questioned your superintend" or "senior always right", and that's what made them become what they've become today as military or police force.
but as people ever said "you cannot argue with captain in a battleship,if you do, you already sink the ship" i cannot agree more if this saying for elder generation, but with our generation? i don't think so. our generation need reasoning, our generation need cooperativeness without that, it's just like you are killing this generation and make them 'your' generation like what doctrine is all about. but in organizational theory stated that organization exist for the people, not as reverse.
in my opinion if military keep this style of command, these military organization will never develop, furthermore if the generation Y or Z running those organization, their true self cannot be contained forever, furthermore this command chain gives you more power as you rise above and makes you more 'free' and what i'm afraid is that when they take control and they do what they want as generation Y would do normally, without any argument from subordinate will led to something bad. these symptom not occured right now, but in 10 years we might see someone from generation Y get on top of management chain and decide to make improvement in organizational behavior and his subordinate whose generation what i don't know maybe won't be welcome as generation Y right now, and nowadays no one ever questioned that in any military organization because that's inexcusable
i'm saying this right now because i see the sign that these symptom is getting higher, *at least in my country and it makes such a bad impression about them, and the subordinate whose not allowed to speak up will not stand up and build their rage inside them, if it's not handled properly than the military organization will eventually lose their name in society and led to chaos in society itself
so my message to all military person out there, please don't feed your fear about your commander, stand up and tell what's wrong because what you doing is you're not repairing the system you're make your organization worse and eventually when you on top you'll make same mistakes and society that maybe OK in past times will change eventually and your poor organization which just stagnant from time to time will pay the price. change now, don't affraid
