have you ever wondered what the world would look like in 50/100 years from now?

well there are actually a group of people who likes to do that, they called 'Futurist'. make no mistake no one of them actually know anything what would happen in the future, it's all just prediction. but i really like them although they are a mixed group of people, the kind that pessimistic and the kind that optimistic about the future

the pessimist would say the world would consume itself with conflict and war, the fight for the oil, the fight for the clean diamond or even the fight for what they believe in. in the other hand the optimist would say the world of IT would improve beyond believe, we would have computer at the size of sheet of a paper and the medicine world would prevent people for getting old, and don't forget in the field of sub-atomic physics. Teleportation might be a real thing!

one of the futurist i adore is Dr. Michio Kaku, a physicist in NYU that have his hand on string field theory, i recommend you watch on of his talks :

he is the optimist one, thats why i like him. according to him and i guess general consensus, technology and science develop at exponential model, he said in 1990 there are a group of scientist with intent to map human genome, by the year 7 they only completed 10%, but 3 years after the rest 70% is done. also do you know that the world data condition is? during this last 5 years we have made 80% of world data exist today, it means from human become exist until now, we made 80% of the data in the last 5 years. who knows what we would make in the next 5?

Dr. Michio shows one side of the coin, one side when people of the world forget all their differences and work together to fix earth and improve the well being of human kind. in this utopia we would be a 'level 1 civilization' a civilization which works together to manipulate and use resource in one planet. to move to level 2 we need to be able to harness energy from a star, and i think thats waay beyond us right now.

how about the other side? the side when all hope is lost, human become more greedy and apathetic? only thinking whats good for themselves and their own kind? the kind of people who slow down human development by going on and on about what they prefer for themselves. the kind of people who will start a war for their own benefit without even thinking about the implication that will be felt by anyone else but them and their kind? let me tell you there are a lot of people in this side of the coin. why they behave in such a way? mostly because they don't believe about future they won't invest in it, why would they care if the ice cap melting in north pole? whats in it for them if insect and amphibian species get extinct at an alarming state? why talk about peace and long lasting solution if war and conflict bring them untold amount of riches and power in their life? these kind of people usually don't have a very good intellectual background and mostly unhinged to everything that happened beyond his eyesight, and whats more they don't care for that either because it don't impact them directly.

these both side of the coin is real and they are the one that shape our future, unfortunately we ought to pick side. will you be the one that destroy this planet? incite war? or the one that actually invest and believe about the future? 50-100-500 years from now. for those of you who wants to believe that the world would not end i advise for you to read more, watch more and explore more. nothing would make you invest in future if you never knew that it existed in the first place! and after you know that future did exist, start investing in it! do your part to build a better future, whether creating something new, upgrading whats already exist, cleaning up mistakes that made by our elder or even teach yourselves on future technology. 

more than that after you fill your skill and head with whats futuristic, you should prepare the future mentally and what is that exactly? tolerance, open mindedness, logical and critical thinking are the keys for you to evolve, by not having all of them i bet it would be difficult for you to accept new ideas and open up new horizon.

oh and the last one, please decrease your use of plastic bottle and plastic bag, come on.

My take on satire

this morning i read some headlines in the internet, the americans once again wants to leave our country, since bali bombing or of course sarinah bombing few days ago, its weird since all 'bombings' make this americans go away while in middle east, it's probably all what their doings

anyway, one of the makers of the most best selling car in the world "Model T", Ford says that they don't want to do business in indonesia anymore, well since they don't have any MPV or SUV and practically that's all indonesian buy. if you are an indonesian open a car workshop thats only deals with sedan, you probably wont get much customer, as sedan owner were probably 70 years old who owns 'Timor'

Ford says that economic growth in indonesia isn't going too well and also their current market share is only 0.6% in indonesia's automotive market, that's not much isn't it? well to think that 30% of market share are held by Toyota, which is weird since their new avanza doesn't have  anything special but the scary face on its back, but somehow it still sales.

also like i said before Ford doesn't have a model that suitable for indonesian people, because they are american company whose making car for american people and american road, meanwhile in indonesia we need car that can carry a lot of items (for mudik purposes) carry a lot of people (for taking village people to city to become maid) or most importantly, they have to be tough with water for flooded reason. the thing is not many americans drive their cars through river and taking illegal immigrants with their luggage with them.

that's why not many indonesian prefer the ford brand, and they much more prefer the japanesse one, i don't know why people keep buying those tin can cars but hey whats important in here is what your neighbor told you what you have to buy, that's explain why we bought baygon even though therewere no mosquito whatsoever in our houses. and these japanesse car although they are really economical, its really doesn't speak much just like our ex vice president, budiono.

these japanesse car invasion make our current car market really jaded, because everything should be japanesse, i wonder do we really won againts japan for independence? this show how much we have been controlled by them, not only car market but also we even have a branch for a Japanesse band, and people love it, i mean where else you could find a branch of a musical brand? and all they do is translate everything into bahasa and dance to it and it's not even a good translation like 'papan penanda is hati' or 'pareo adalah emerald' i mean what the fuck? and even sometimes they don't even bother to translate it like 'River' why? because it sounded really fukn weird to translate that. and yet people like them.

back to ford, as i can say ford is one of the biggest car maufacturer in the US if not in the world, and unfortunately followed by his ancestor GM, they also have some problems with their finances and thus they stopped to selling cars in indonesia, and as i quote the director of Ford Asia pacific " we are commited to restructure our business especially in area where there are no longer profit could shown and market condition prohibit us to compete effectively" he said they cannot 'compete effectively' why you may ask? because Astra is all over the automotive industry in Indonesia, every big distributor have joined astra and do you know what happened to the rest? they got beaten up really badly yes astra is really like those palm oil entrepeneur whose keep making new lands by burning them although we already the number one producer of crude palm oil in the world.

we know that this past years economics is really bad in indonesia, the growth as the media always said 'fine' actually it's not what it look like, and MEA is coming toward us without any preparations our government  take we surely will have an amazing time of looking for jobs when that day is coming.

Are Each Of Us Really Special?

As a personho born with Gen.X as my parents, we dont encounter something really depressing situation such as great depression or great war, even if we did encounter those events, we're still young and don't know much how's that will effect economy of our family or establishment.

we are the generation whose raise with a lot of dream in front of us, we are told by our parents to pursue our dream, because to them we are soo lucky and have everything we need, unlike our parents who need to struggle just to get education, we are so lucky even our parents can choose what education suit us, even they can complain to the teacher what they should or should not do to us.

we live in such a happy moment, we dont need to worry about war, or riot. we are focused on our education, which sounds like a good idea, but if you think much about it, it's really not that good . i used to watch kids nowadays, and especially in college students where they should turn from 'kids' to 'adult', this generation which never really have to struggle for live will expect a lot of comfort after turned into adult. what kind of adult we become?

and the question remain, are we even THAT Special? if you took any personality test you will found that you were 'special' or at least that's what your parents dictate you in the last of your lifetime, 'you are special'. and even education nowadays treat each person as 'special' there's no kids that same they have each different traits. but DO WE?

maybe you can claim yourself special, like there's no other people like me, i'm unique or so. but in reality we're not that special, we always have the same dream (to be rich and success) and we will think how to become that is to work or even sells something. i mean there's no originality in our dreams, even in this unique life of ours, we always learn to be someone from other people, thats why you often heard about 'rolemodel' or 'favourite person'. our lives, there's no originality in there.

the thing is to realize this matter will helpful to you so you dont get too much expectation in your life, as somebody special, you must've shining in your workplace or you should be the one the boss like among other people, but then again if your co workers think the same does it still make you special?.
IF EVERYONE SPECIAL THEN WHAT SO SPECIAL TO BECOME SPECIAL?

the future of adhesive sticker

we all know how the advertisement is conduct with stickers, you often see them in the street, on your friend's front door, or even in mirror inside your room. not only stop in stickers, but also everything that need adhesive materials, such as posters flyers etc.

the problem with these kind of advertisement is that this really bothers the environment, the adhesive is like staying there for a long time, and when it comes off it doesn't come off easily, there still have bits and bits a LOT of bits that just make your wall seems ugly and dirty

thus, this kind of advertisement make the advertiser seems like a bad guy, you can't just stick it anywhere without being told to piss off, because no one ever wants a stranger to make his fence look dirty

this problem takes us to a question, is there something better to do? well if we see today technology like social media really helps in advertising, but for who? if we want to advertise something which our main target is taxi driver or shopkeeper than social media is not the answer, and do you know how effective a poster or sticker is? just stick a sticker on top of urinoir, i guarantee each person using that urinoir will see your ad, or just place it in big mirror anywhere, 100% every person pass by will notice

i wonder there will be a breakthrough adhesive innovation that will be no sticky anymore when you put some heat/chemical/somethin and thus make this kind of advertisement acceptable anywhere on your neighborhood also for the more advance thing, maybe only with certain amount of chemical/heat/whatevs this adhesive material will come off so no sabotage on your ad, as long as you are reliable and nice..

The Rule of THREE

On this particular slot, i will tell you my own theory, this theory should be able to help you in regular basis, just because it is simple and help you to solve any problem you faced. as you may know, there are some approaches you can take when you are dealing with problems.

first PDCA cycle (Plan-Do-Check-Action) these cycle is one of the base from industrial engineering study, where plan is when you make assumption for your problem and plan ahead what you should do about that, then Do, is where you implement those alternatives not by 100%, but just a glimpse so you can calculate the impact of that alternatives, and then Check, its where you evaluate what you've done so far and you have to decide what alternative you should use, and after all clear you can make next step into Action where you implement all the solution you make.

beside PDCA there's more easy theory we all able to implement, such as problem solving cycle which consist of identify problem, explore the solution, set goals, make alternatives or plan B, select which one is better, implement and finally evaluate, if something goes wrong then back to identify the problem

but the main problem about problem solving mostly it's not in the theory on how you do that or else, but it comes when you try to implement all of that, first of all when you want to identify the problem, where you should start? from what perspective you should see? which one is more urgent than the others? these problem will eventually come up in every step of problem solving cycle. then what you need is not these cycle, but the frame on how you should think about everything.

my theory is super simple, the theory of three is what it's sounds like, it represent the number three, which basically means anything, any problems, any solutions can be started with three part :

PREPARATION

ACTION

FINISH

or

BACKGROUND

CONTENT

EVAUATION

or

PRE

PROCESS

POST

anything will basically consist of these three. when you started to analyze anything, just start with these basic three and your analysis will become much much more easier and faster, also its valid because it's scientific.

Train for Archipelago country

Train, as we know it is one of the mass transport mode, this mode has been exist since early 1800's this breakthrough has made people move faster, economic growth move rapidly in early england, and soon in the continent. Train make it possible to transport raw material easily, transport people far distances in short time, because it's so mind blowing, people had to make time zone to standardize time when you arrive in the destination, maybe when we travel by horse or something else we don't need time zone. but train force us to standardize it.

as a fans of train, it made me thinking what goods that it brings to my country which is an archipelago country, the main idea of train is some big chunk of metal move in rapid speed on the rail, which is brilliant idea in continental country or at least like england where there are only 2 main island, for us? with 57.000 island and 6 main island i find it hard to help.

some say trains are not for us they say what this country need is an airplane, a small airplane to move freely from one island to another, well that saying can be right, but for industrial head like me, i think it's not good enough, with airways maybe we can transport people in short time, but not in a massive way, and i think thats why i don't see any progress with my island (kalimantan), south kalimantan to be exact in the last 10 years, why? because the transportation growth to these area are slow

then some question emerge, why can we make train that can reach many island in the archipelago country one like indonesia. my idea come from integrating boat with train, i called it water railways the idea is so simple, it's to give boat a railway so it can move faster, but what kind of boat you may ask, well it's not just a boat it's more like a half bullet train half boat, so it can move with the wave and all sort of thing in the ocean.

just imagine we have to make bridge that long, in what cost? in what time? is it applicable to other island? i dont think so.

well i'm not able to design it more detail because of my lack of understanding with hydrodynamics and other things related to that so if anyone want to help i think that's just wonderful.

3D Printing IS the FUTURE

do you know 3D printing? no? then you must've been truly late for what was happening in the world right now, imagine like some god that can create anything from nothing, well the main idea about these printer is like that, you can make something real from just a bunch of useless pellet, and the process also fast and easy *well it's not that easy actually but you get the point, i think this invention could lead us to another segment of industrial revolution

back then, james watt make an incredible invention with his more efficient and more practicable steam machine you see newcomen was the first who found those thing yet the industrial revolution just begun when watt introduced the one that more 'people friendly'

i can say that's what happening to this technology right now, but with information revolution today, almost everyone get their hands on this technology just right away thus make this technology grow rapidly, in just 2 years the growth had reach 50% and keep going, some says technological market grows really fast, and reduce really fast too, just like smart phone market, when you're saving for this year model the new model will come up just 6 months after.

but this technology not like smart phones in any way, this technology more manufacture-like than consumer-like, just imagine this technology replaced all lathe machine, all CNC machine or even small drilling machine all over industry, and it's just as realistic as it sound, nowadays even metal can come out from these badasses machine

what i'm thinking is that do we really ready to embrace this technology? or we just seen it as passer-by like what we do to soo many other thing like virtual reality, solar panel etc. come on i mean this is new future in front of us, let's together embrace it and put our effort, thought also soul in this technology for i'm sure whoever grab this opportunity soon will have whole world in their hands.
